An ode to good governance

Here we are, it’s election time,

Fake promises, cash for votes and all such crime,

Drama and upheavals are a part of the show,

And one just wonders how could they stoop so low.

Improve the infrastructure, rid the city of potholes,

Remove the slums and save our souls,

No roads to walk on, no parks to play,

Is this the way we want our city to sway!

Corruption has been rampant, let’s get rid of this,

Let’s give the errant boys a goodbye kiss,

It’s our money they’re laundering, they feel no shame,

Without voting, we have no one but ourselves to blame.

Regional parties have their own men,

One may be clean as a slate, the other has nothing to offer on his plate,

Country takes precedence over petty regional fights,

All these divides just aggravate our plight.

The sitting duck, deserves some muck,

Boasts of attendance in the parliament , but oh his party is a shmuck!

Takes wide credit for only a couple of projects cleared in 4 years,

His campaign this time will probably end in tears.

But there is hope at the end of the tunnel,

An educated banker, it’s widely believed will annul,

The corruption, poverty, greed, misery,

Bring education, order, cleanliness and affordable fodder,

For the ‘cattle class’ who vote with an eye on change,

Vote for the the deserving, not for favours in exchange.

But it’s not this city that we’ll vote for,

The national elections we cannot ignore,

The fate of the country depends on this,

We must make sure that no one gives it a miss.

It’s the tea-seller pitched against the prodigal son,

At the centre of it all, oh, it’s going to be so much fun,

One’s here cause he has nowhere else to go,

The other cause his prowess he wants to show,

One’s here for the corruption and scams,

The other to build the economy, roads and dams,

One’s here to appease and ’empower’,

The other so that the public doesn’t feel overpowered.

What a battle it is going to be,

Elections in the biggest ever democracy,

Brace yourselves for a long, twisted ride,

And make sure along the way, you decide upon your side.
